Classroom Syllabus

Classroom Goals

By the end of Foundations of Algebra, you will have a strong foundation of mathematics and be prepared for Algebra 1. In this course we will cover 4 main topics:

  • Number an Quantity
  • Algebra
  • Functions
  • Statistics and Probability


Classroom Rules – 5 P’s

1.  Prompt – Be on-time, enter the classroom quietly and immediately go to your assigned seat.

2.  Prepared – Bring all materials. Be in proper uniform with ID on and visible.

3.  Productive – Maximize learning time by staying on task and following directions.

4.  Polite – Be nice or neutral to everyone; swearing, teasing, talking back and bullying will NOT be tolerated. Respect yourself, your classmates, your teacher and your classroom. Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.

5. Patient – Wait respectfully for your turn. Do not shout out answers. Listen and stay seated when someone is talking. Do not interrupt.



Students are expected to exhibit appropriate behaviors while entering the classroom, completing the First Five, during teacher instruction, during student practice, group work, and testing situations.  We will follow the ACHIEVE plan to identify appropriate behaviors during these activities (will be discussed in class).

   Foundations of Algebra follows the parish grading scale:

93 – 100 A

85 –   92 B

7 5 -  84 C

67 –   74 D

   0 – 66 F

  Your grade in this class is determined by total points earned/total points offered. Your grade in this class will come from end-of-module assessments, quizzes, homework grades, class activities, and class starters. A comprehensive End of Course exam created by the Louisiana Department of Education will count as 10% of the final grade.
