Ginny Nolen

The 411: Mrs. Nolen

In 2002 I began my teaching career right here at Parkway High School.  For the last sixteen years I have cherished my time as a Panther and have been touched by the countless students that have walked through my classroom doors.  I take pride in each of these young men and women, and I sincerely hope that when these students leave my class once and for all, I have encouraged them to see their true star potential.

I am a native of Shreveport/Bossier, and my family includes an extensive line of educators.  After graduating from Airline High School, I entered Louisiana Tech University where I eventually pursued a degree in Secondary English Education. How Bout Them Dawgs!  Upon graduation I returned to the Shreveport/Bossier area to begin my career at Parkway.

With certification in both English and Speech, I have been fortunate to teach/sponsor a variety of courses and organizations during my time at PHS.  These include the following:

*Senior Project

*English IV

*English III

*English I

*AP Literature and Composition

*Speech I

*Speech II

*Tech Theater

*Student Council

Notable achievements and honors include the following:

*2007-2008 Bossier Parish Optimist Club High School Teacher of the Year

*2007-2008 PHS Black Paw Award

*2008 LHSSL Novice Debate State Champions

*2008 National Forensic League National Qualifying Debate Team

*Senior Project Curriculum Coordinator and Development Team: 2010 Parish Pilot Program

*PHS Senior Project Coordinator:  2010- present

*AP Literature and Composition Certification- 2013

*PHS English Department Head:  2013-present

*NMSI Training: 2014-2015

*Teacher Leader Summit 2017

As stated above, I currently serve as the English Department Head and Senior Project Coordinator at PHS.  My schedule for the 2017-2018 school year includes Speech I, Speech II and English IV courses.  I have been thrilled to watch our Speech program at Parkway flourish over the past four years and take great pride in this achievement. Speech is such an important tool in society, and I love watching students grow their confidence behind the podium.  With that said, my wheelhouse and first love is definitely English and Senior Project.  Classic British literature is my personal favorite, and I love to share the works of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Romantic and Victorian authors, and so many more with my Senior students.  It is so important that our students realize that although much has changed; much has stayed the same, especially when analyzing human nature and universal themes.   I have taught English IV and Seniors since 2006 and have served Bossier Parish and PHS as Senior Project Coordinator since its inception in 2009.  It has been the highlight of my career to work with Seniors through both of these facets, and I feel so incredibly honored that the parish entrusted me with this program and its development. I love that I am able to be a part of this most treasured time in these students' school career.

My husband Bubba and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary, and we reside in Shreveport with our two daughters, Melanie and Elizabeth, and our dog Tootsie.  I am currently in the midst of pursuing my Masters degree in Educational Leadership, and I look forward to what the future may hold.  My other passions include traveling anywhere and everywhere, music, and the New Orleans Saints.  I am a die-hard Saints fan and love the city of New Orleans; so with that, I'll leave you with a WHO DAT!!!
