My name is Courtney Friedley, and I began my teaching career at Parkway High School in January of 2010. The courses I currently teach are English I, Language!/Reading, and Film as Literature! I am a Parkway High School graduate, and a true lover of SOBO! After high school, I attended Louisiana Tech University where I received my BA in Pre-Professional Speech-Language Pathology. Two years later, I graduated with my Masters in Secondary English. My dad, uncle, aunt, sisters, and cousins are also graduates of PHS! I have two older sisters named Casey and Katie. Casey is married to Jason, and they have one precious daughter, Chloe Jane. My sister, Katie, is married to Justin. Together they have Eason and the twins, Max and Presley. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have a Yorkshire Terrier named Totti Dior! She was born December 3, 2006. She is my obsession! I love my family at CrossFItSBC. I am also the SENIOR CLASS Sponsor with Linda Walker, as well as a member of our PHS Hospitality Committee. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me! Ilook forward to working with your child! Have a blessed day! Go Panthers!!

Classroom Behavior Syllabus
Listen and follow directions.
Each student is responsible for obtaining notes/materials when he or she is absent.
Abide by school policies and procedures at all times.
Respect yourself, others, and school
Necessary materials and supplies used for learning are expected to be in class daily.
Please check Illuminate frequently. I will update grades several times throughout the week.
Homework: Homework worth less than 100 points, will not be accepted after due date. If you are late turning in a homework assignment worth more than 100 points, 10 points will be deducted from your grade for every day late assignment. Assignments that are not turned in during the time that I collect homework will be considered late.
****If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what assignments you have missed. Please DO NOT return to class and immediately ask me what material was covered in class while you were absent.
Make-up Tests: When you are absent from school, you are expected to make-up any work you missed –regardless of the reason. It is the student's responsibility to obtain the objectives and notes, if any, given on the day(s) that were missed. Students must also retrieve the appropriate worksheets or handouts from those days, which can be found in a designated area within the classroom.
You must follow these procedures in order to quickly obtain any missed assignments.
**AGAIN --- DO NOT return to class and automatically ask me what you missed!
**If you are absent on the day of any test or quiz, you may only make up the test after school on Thursdays in the library.
**Upon returning to class, you have one week to make up all missing work.
Please take care of your make-up work in a timely manner! Be responsible!
Class Work: At the beginning of class, you will copy down the objectives from the board.
The first 5-10 minutes of every class will comprise of INDIVIDUAL student activities, which will be discussed in class. Students will also be reading novels throughout the semester and tested on each novel using Accelerated Reader. Every week you will be tested on a new set of vocabulary words. These tests are worth 40 points. Vocabulary assignments will be given throughout the week.
By the end of the first 9 weeks, at least two-three POP QUIZZES will have been given over the classroom objectives.

Tardy to Class: If you are tardy to class, you must report to Tardy Central (located in the library and in the front office) to get a tardy slip. The only exception to this is if you have a note from a Parkway staff member.
Finding Out Your Grade: Bossier Parish School Board provides all students and their parents the opportunity to get daily updates of grades by logging into the Illuminate program. Doing so allows you to see updated grades as they are put into the grade book. Progress reports are also sent home every 4 and 1/2 weeks.
Parent/Teacher Information: I strive to obtain successful parent/teacher relations, so please feel free to email me if you have any questions at any point of the semester. Please encourage your child to pay attention to assignments and directions given during class. Your child’s acceptance of this responsibility will ensure that he or she will be your best resource for any and all information.
Ending Class: YOU MUST REMAIN IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT PRIOR TO CLASS DISMISSAL!! When the final bell rings, you need to be sure you have turned in your daily assignment(s) and cleaned the area around your desk. This includes all trash on the floor!! After these tasks have been completed, again, you MUST return to your desk and remain seated until the bell rings!! When I have granted you permission, you may be excused.
- Please do not get up out of your seat without permission at any point during the class period, especially when I am teaching. Keep all trash items at your desk, and properly dispose of them as you are exiting the classroom.
- I will determine the seating arrangements throughout the semester. You must remain in your assigned seat during class, unless I have given you permission to change seats prior to the beginning of class. Please try to keep our classroom seats in neatly arranged rows with plenty of space between your desk and any nearby walls. Students that are last in their row have a huge responsibility. Upon your arrival to the classroom, it is your responsibility to ensure that the back of your chair is at least one foot away from the wall. I must be able to walk around each row during lectures and testing; otherwise, those particular students will be reassigned to another seat in the classroom.
